Ingredients

– 12 ounces orecchiette pasta

Instructions

Follow these steps to create your amazing orecchiette with sausage and broccoli:

1. Cook the Pasta: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the orecchiette and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Reserve 1 cup of the pasta water before draining.

2. Brown the Sausage: In a large skillet over medium heat, add the Italian sausage. Cook until browned and crumbled, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat.

3. Add Garlic: Stir in the minced garlic and red pepper flakes (if using) to the skillet with the sausage. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

4. Steam the Broccoli: While the sausage is cooking, add the broccoli to the pot of boiling pasta water during the last 2-3 minutes of cooking. Drain the pasta and broccoli together once done.

5. Combine Ingredients: Add the drained orecchiette and broccoli to the skillet with the sausage mixture. Pour in the olive oil, and add salt and pepper to taste. Toss everything together to combine.

6. Add Pasta Water: If the mixture seems dry, gradually add the reserved pasta water until the desired consistency is reached. Toss to combine.
